Prescott Ignored Warning Against Ranch Visit
Sources close to Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has claimed that at least one aide has warned him that the trip to a super casino bidder's estate could be seen as controversial. Prescott, now in the midst of a scandal, obviously paid no heed to the warning.
One source said: "He was told it might be better not to go to the ranch because of how it might look. But there's not a lot you can do if he decides to say 'Sod it' and do what he wants."
Prescott is now swimming in controversy following his vacation at billionaire Philip Anschutz's Colorado estate summer of 2005. Anschutz is the owner of London's Millennium Dome, and is bidding to transform it into Britain's first super casino.
A Parliamentary investigation has since been launched to determine whether Prescott's involvement with Anschutz indeed entails a conflict of interest.
Prescott however insists that he separated himself from negotiations concerning the Dome.
Prescott has also been grilled following the disclosure that he has met up with Anschutz in 6 other previous undeclared occasions. He was also given an elaborate cowboy outfit by the casino magnate as a gift.
Prescott has been involved in other controversies prior to the casino bid. He has admitted to having an extra marital affair with his secretary, and was forced to give up a county estate after being caught playing croquet during official working hours.
